What Causes Syncope After Using Eye Drops?

Can a person have a near syncope reaction to some of the drops put in the eyes just before cataract surgery? My heart is in good shape for 65 yers old and a physician gave me okay for this type of surgery. However, near syncope has occured just after the drops in my eyes twice now. Any suggestions ?

Hi,
Eye drops used before cataract surgery is used to dilate pupils. Dilating pupils will cause blurring of vision. Since systemic absorption of these drugs is nil to minimal, they don't expect to cause syncope. Since you had two episodes, you should discuss with your ophthalmologist for an alternative.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
