What Causes Systemic Pain Throughout The Arm, Shoulder And Back After Pneumococcal Vaccine?

I received the pneumococcal vaccine 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have had extreme systemic, radiating pain throughout my arm, shoulder and back. The pain is extreme at night and I have been consistently taking high doses of motrin and tylenol. It is not getting better. What is this and will it go away?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, you need review it with a neurologist or neurosurgeon to rule out nerve lesion after intramuscular injection.

Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be used. If pain persists nerve pain suppressants like gabapentin or carbamezapine may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
