What Causes Tachycardia After Having Food?

I had a colonoscopy over 12 years ago and since then I ve had tacycardia 30 minutes after eating . My doctor put me on metropolol and am lodipine and been in and out of the ER thinking still it s a heart attack or thyroid etc . But all the tests came back negative just dehydrated and they send me home. This has been ongoing for years and I m tired of it all. My blood pressure was never high until I got so upset and filled with anxiety. I just came out of the ER this time with bradycardia and he has me on linosprinil and I still have tacycardia after eating. My doctor days it is IBS and now it s all in my head. I tried to limit certain foods to see if it s gluten or carbs or dehydration. My stomach bloats and the food won t digest and my pulse in my stomach and my neck races after 30 mins of eating from 102 to 300 . It began when I was 59 now I m 61. Can you help me ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you are a senior citizen you are suggested to get a complete cardiac check up done. CBC, lipid profile and EKG, etc. This is to stay on the safer side & to rule out any developing CAD. Stress and anxiety trigger palpitations, stay away from them. If it is IBS, take fiber rich food, avoid constipation, take laxatives at bed time.

Indigestion and allergy to certain food may also cause acid reflux and trigger palpitations after food. For relieve take antacids and PPI's, one SOS after food. Take digestive enzymes (aristozyme, one SOS) to help easy digestion. Take some liver tonic to boost your metabolic system. It is effective and you will feel better. Do regular walking and stay cheerful. Stay well hydrated and take adequate sleep. You can take vitamin E (Evion 400mg), once daily for 15 days.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
