What Causes Tachycardia Upon Slight Exertion Along With Sharp Chest Pain?

Hi Dr Rynne My wife has been in the hospital for the last 5 days and was finally discharged after all tests returned normal and they had no other ideas. Symptoms are: tachycardia w very little exertion (pulse up to 130-140 just walking to the bathroom), chest pain with moments of very sharp pains, headaches, fatigue, and edema in all extremities. at the beginning the edema was mainly in left ankle and foot but now all over. I am a Psych NP and have been checking her BP at home and I have noticed a difference in BP s in both arms. At hospital she had a nuclear stress test, chest CT, lab work---all have been negative

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your description, two possibilities can be there, Valvular disease probably aortic or Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD).

To diagnose valvular disease get 2D echocardiography done. It will check other heart problems also. For PVD, doppler ultrasound or contrast angiography should be done.

In your case, probability is of valvular heart disease. Consult cardiologist and get proper advice from him.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
