What Causes Tender And Sensitive Spot After Using Protopic Ointment?

I used a topical cream- triamcinolone .05% for about two months- first to treat itching in the scrotal area. The itching ceased but I continued to use it for a while longer. I then noticed a stinging, burning sensation, exacerbated by contact with fabric. My PCP advised using it more, but after two weeks with no improvement, I saw a dermatologist who prescribed Protopic ointment .01%. Now after almost two weeks it is still quite tender and sensitive although the redness has mostly disappeared. I stopped using it this morning, which seems to have lessened the discomfort. What do you advise? Do you think it is contact dermatitis?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Let me tell you the symptoms described by you suggest that you have atopic dermatitis. You can better send me a photo of the rash on reports in order to better evaluate it. I suggest taking oral corticosteroids such as prednisone if conditions is severe. New FDA approved injectable drug called dupilumab most helpful. I also suggest using corticosteroid cream and wet dressing regular basis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
