What Causes Tenderness And Pain In Ankles?

My 9 year old daughter told me today that her ankles really hurt. Yesterday she was running and she said it felt like one of them gave way under weight and she fell. She sprained her ankle in July but has felt fine since then. She said they just recently started hurting. It hurts to walk, she says it hurts when I touch them, when she moves them. No swelling, no redness. They just hurt.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM!

I understand your concerns. Since your daughter has had a history of ankle trauma, is expected that something like that to be repeated because her ankle is weak or fragile. Is the problem exists only at one side this highlight this idea. In rare cases there are some other medical conditions not directly related to the ankle or bones that may cause pain in joints for example sore throat of streptococcus, parasites etc. Just do a throat secretions culture, a stool analysis and see an orthopedist doctor.

Take care and hope your daughter will be fine soon.
