Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Tenderness And Pain While Coughing After An Emergency CABG Surgery?
Yes, I had an emergency CABG (triple cardiac by-pass) surgery on 7-25-14. It has now been almost a year, and I still have a bit of tenderness or small pain whenever I cough to clear my throat. I also still have tenderness and itchiness around the incision scar. Is this normal at this stage?
Hello, I really appreciate your concern. Pain on coughing could be due to surgery. Because in CABG surgery middle bone of the chest known as sternum is cut. So after surgery it is possible to have pain during coughing. You can use a pillow for pressure on the chest while coughing. Scar tenderness and itching over scar is normal phenomenon. You can use anti allergic (itching) tablet or ointment for itching. Hope my answer has solved your query. Take Care. Thank you.
