What Causes Tenderness Below The Ear?

I have a tenderness high on my neck, left side, right behind my jawbone, under my ear. It started with like a twinge you get in your mouth when you eat something sour, but it isn t in my mouth. When I put a little pressure on it to see if it would stop, it was painful. Now it doesn t twinge , but it is tender without touch.
