Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Tenderness In The Gums After A Dental Filling?
I had a tooth filled 4 days ago on Monday. Yesterday I noticed that the back (the farthest back) of my tooth where the gums are feels extremely tender (NOT the tooth). I have had this pain before in the past usually when food gets caught under the gums, but there is no food. I can actually get floss inbetween my gums and my tooth with the filling. Is this normal? Should I wait this out and see how it feels in a couple days?
Based on the history you have shared, it seems like local gums inflammation like gingivitis or socket infection. You may need antibiotics after getting it reviewed by a dental surgeon.
Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful for symptomatic relief. Avoiding too much cold or hot exposure for sensitivity may be helpful.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
