What Causes Tenderness Over The Areolas Of Breasts?
I am single female 23 yr old not married before , i feel tenderness over the areolas of both breasts and pain on touching them , my dr. Told me that may be fibroadenosis and ask for US . How can i confirm and what is the treatment and prognosis ? Thanks for advance .
The possible causes of tenderness the areolas are: - During the premenstrual period because of the fluctuations in the reproductive hormones tenderness can be experienced in the breast as well as the areolas. - Fibroadenosis is a condition where the tissue of the breast will become thicker, mild fibroadenosis changes can be detected only by the imaging. In case of palpable fibroadenomas fine needle aspiration cytology should be done to confirm and may need excision biopsy sometimes. - Mastitis infection of the breast tissue is another condition.
By clinical examination and sonomammography the possible cause of the problem can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly. So, please proceed according to your doctor's advice.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
