Hi. I am a 46 yr old female. I am 5 9 and 150 lbs. inwas very active last year, running marathons and working out. April to October ladt year i had a boot on for a couple stress fractures. In February this year, i saw an orthopedist because i had a terrible pain and burn across the top of my foot. The pain feels like a twig snapping. She has no ifea. But the boot on for two weeks. Symptons keep coming back, modtly the psin. I stopped running in February. Hate that. The area affected is the top of the foot just before the toes. Any ideas? No gout. Xrays showed no fractures or brakes. Light arthritis.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

From your symptoms, it seems that you are suffering from plantar fasciitis. It happens due to inflammation of the plantar fascia.
It hurts the most with the first few steps in the morning because the plantar fascia is tight and has not stretched out yet, and throughout the day it loosens up. The best thing you can do is when you wake up in the morning, before getting out of bed and taking a step, give yourself a little foot rub.
There are many things you can try to help your foot get better:
Give your feet a rest. Cut back on activities that make your feet hurt. Try not to walk or run on hard surfaces.
Use shoes with good arch support and a cushioned sole.
take an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen (such as Advil or Motrin), naproxen (such as Aleve), or aspirin.
Do toe stretches, calf stretches and towel stretches several times a day, especially when you first get up in the morning.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
