What Causes The Blood Sugar Levels To Be Normal With Elevated HBA1C?
Hello Dr. I have a friends case that ill tell right now Female 22 years old , they have inherited cases in the family diabetes, her problem is that her body does not burn the sugar she intakes as her doctor she consulted said. She tried many diets with dietician and all her blood sugar tests are normal except for the Hba1c which was prediabetic! The conclusion they went into is for her to take glucophage (metformin) but she doesnt want a life time treatment like that, and neither injections due to their teratogenic effect! So any solutions right here? Thanks a lot

Hi injections don't have a teratogenic effect. Hba1c is a test that indicates the sugar level over a period of three months and not just in a single day. If Hba1c is high it is an indication of diabetes. You also mention that she has a family history of diabetes and she will know how uncontrolled sugars can lead to serious complications. Taking a medicine to ensure that she keeps her sugars in control and there by lead a healthy life is better than neglecting it now and suffering serious consequences later on. I can understand that it is difficult to accept the fact that she should be on life long medication. There are people suffering with diseases for which there is no name and no treatment. Luckily diabetes has been researched so much and treatment is available to ensure good quality of life. So ask your friend not to fear and start medication. Incase of any problem she can always contact her doctor or any doctors here on health care magic and we will be able to help. I wish your friend good health. take care :)
