What Causes The Feeling Of Mucus Blockage At The Back Of Throat?
I can t get to the bottom of this. 1st I think it s a milk allergy...then a gluten allergy. It seems everything I eat causes me this symptom which is quite a problem. It is the feeling that I have something behind my nose or in my throat. My breathing is fine and not obstructed. But I always feel I have maybe thick mucus that I can t get rid of. I use a neti pot every morning at least 5X in each nostril. I ll feel better for a while but the feeling in my throat and in my rt cheek sinus comes and goes. Comes more than goes.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Accumulation of mucus at back of throat and sinuses is not suggestive of gluten allergy or milk allergy. Excessive secretion of mucus in sinuses and throat is indicative of upper respiratory tract infection or inflammation. Is there is any history of allergy like hay fever or asthma? If yes then this is the probable cause of excessive secretion of mucus in upper respiratory tract. I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist for clinical assessment of nasal mucosa and sinuses. If allergy is present, anti-allergic drugs are required. In case there is evidence of infection or inflammation, relevant treatment is required.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
