What Causes The Fingers To Lock When Bent?

My husband has pain in the palm of his hands and when he bends several of his fingers they seem to lock while bent and they are painful. He is a guitar player and it hurts to bend his fingers around the neck of the guitar. What could cause this pain and locking fingers? Thank you, Alta Evans

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my surgical experience, the fingers locking of your husband is apparently related to nerve compression at the flexor retinaculum most likely at anatomical snuffbox or at wrist level, hampering the extension movements of the digits in its best possible manner.

He needs an evaluation with orthopedic surgeon for final cure after evaluation via MRI of the wrist most likely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
