What Causes The Hearing Of A Sound Above The Left Ear?

Am hearing sound in head above L ear, like air going through hollow tube on two consecutive pitches, back and forth. Intermittently, it may be in rapid succession (I am exhausted, under stress, and it is my phone ear): if I am concentrating my attention elsewhere, I don t notice it, but it has grown in prominence. Thanks You.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The abnormal sound is likely tinnitus and there are different possible causes.

Some of the more common causes are- trauma, ear infection, sinusitis, ruptured ear drum, excess ear wax, Meniere's disease, side effect of medication, associated with hearing loss.

You may need to consider seeing an ENT doctor for assessment and treatment.

I hope this helps.
