I was diagnoised with a hiatal hernia three months ago. Since then i have been suffering from heaviness in the chest, also i have had a stent placed in about one and half months ago. All ekgs come back great, blood pressure is fine. still suffering from heaviness in chest, sometimes weird feelings in throat and left arm, also get light headed. stomach always feels like it is huge.
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your concern. In my opinion, you are mostly having GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Hiatus hernia is known risk factor for GERD. This causes laxity of gastroesophageal sphincter. Because of this there is gaseous distention of stomach which gives feeling of chest heaviness and bloated stomach. So better to take proton pump inhibitors and prokinetic drugs. Avoid hot and spicy food, junk food. Avoid large meals, instead take frequent small meals. Keep 2 - 3 pillows under head in the bed to prevent symptoms. If by all these, you are not improving then you need to get done surgical repair of Hiatus hernia. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
