What Causes The Inability To Swallow, Internal Chills And Soreness Of Muscles?

I can not swallow. I m hot outside and cold inside. I am getting random bursts of chills inside of me. I physically can not even swallow my own saliva. I tried putting Vaseline around my trout and rubbing, but nothing is happening. My muscles are so sore. I can not move. I have to sleep and do everything, with y mouth open breathing deep breaths, and that just builds saliva in my mouth that I have had to spit out on a tissue; anything not to swallow. I tried tea with honey, but I can not swallow, I have been taking Advil, but it is making it worse. What is it, and what can help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for your question. I'm glad to help.

You are having pharyngitis, an infection of the pharynx, the inner part of the mouth just before the throat. Your symptoms likely suggest that it is of bacterial origin.

You need a visit to your doctor for a test called throat culture to confirm that bacteria are responsible for the infection. However, if a visit to the doctor would be difficult, i suggest you get penicillin V tablets or amoxicillin tablets and take as directed in the instructions.

In the interim, these are tips that would help you reduce the symptoms:

1. Drink plenty of water, swallowing may be painful, but the infected pharynx needs to be hydrated to reduce the irritation.
2. Inhale steam from a bucket of warm water. This helps to reduce the inflammation
3. Gargle with warm salt water for 10 minutes three times daily.

I hope you get better soon.

Please reach me for feedback.

Best wishes.
