General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM!

What you are describing as lips turning blue is medically referred to as Cyanosis i.e bluish discoloration of skin or mucous membrane.

It basically happens due to increase in the concentration of deoxygenated Haemoglobin, which occurs due to decreased oxygen in your body.

There might be several causes which cause cyanosis and you have to be thoroughly investigated to ascertain what is causing cyanosis.

Some common causes are:
1. Congenital heart disease.
2. Lung edema,
3.lung thromboembolism (dislodgement of a blood clot and its lodging in the lung arteries),
4. high altitude sickness,
5. severe pneumonia,
6. acute sever attack of asthma,
7. chronic obstructive lung disease,
8. acute adult respiratory distress syndrome. etc.

The cause should be ascertained and then treated accordingly/
Hope this information helps. Feel free to as if you have any doubts.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

With warm regards,
Dr. Sridhar Reddy
