Hello,
It seems like ER has actually done CT scan mainly to check for injuries (trauma) which is often the first suspicion. Since you mention your father do not have insurance I will provide information in detail and try to guide you as much as I can. ER have not ruled another cause known as
temporal arteritis /
Giant cell arteritis which needs to be checked as well. Please ask your dad for any of the below mention symptoms persists.
1) Double vision (Seeing two of same things)
2) Sudden loss of vision in one eye
3)
Throbbing headache that’s usually in the temples
4) Jaw pain
5) Tenderness around scalp / temple
6) Fever
>>> If more than three of the above mention 6 symptoms are present please take your father again to ER and request them to do TEMPORAL BIOPSY for Giant cell arteritis or at least have steroid prescription if they think possibility of Temporal arteritis is there. This is much needed because higher chances for loss of vision if the condition persist, considered as condition needing emergency treatment.
>>> If less than there symptoms are present then there are various other causes that needs to be looked at. I would request you to check below mentioned symptoms and take them to appropriate physician to have it checked because the bumps will resolve only after the underlying condition is treated.
1)
Ear infection (Ear pain present with fever)
2)
Eye infection ( Pink eye, inflammation in eye / discharge from eyes)
3)
Tooth infection (bleeding from gums / tooth ache)
4) Less common infections like (
infectious mononucleosis, mumps etc.) may also causes the painful lumps (fever persist - take to Primary care physician).
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
