What Causes The Pain Behind The Ear Of 81 Year Old?

My 81 YEAR OLD SISTER HAS SEVERE PAIN IN THE BONE BEHIND HER EAR. SHE HAS BEEN TO SEVERAL DOCTORS WHO HAVE NOT GIVEN A DIAGNOSIS OTHER THAN GRINDING OF TEETH WHICH SHE DOES NOT DO. AN X-RAY AND AN MRI SHOW NOTHING BUT AUTHRITIUS. THE PAIN HAS PERSISTED FOR ABOUT 7 WEEKS. IT DOES NOT HURT AT NIGHT. SHE TAKES A PERSCRIBED PAIN PILL DAILY AND HAS TO ALSO THAT AN ALEVE TO BE ABLE TO COPE WITH THE PAIN, WHICH IS GETTING MORE SEVERE AND SHE IS NEAR A NERVIOUS BREAKDOWN DUE TO THE PAIN.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. She is having temporomandibular joint arthritis.
2. It can also cause associated stiffness surrounding the joint, which can cause painful muscle spasm.
3. Needed NSAID painkillers to reduce pain. Need to avoid excessive hard biting. If excessively painful Opioid analgesics may be taken.
4. If continuously painful, need to discuss with your doctor regarding surgery. Meet your doctor for opioid analgesics medications, if necessary.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
