What Causes The Presence Of RBC In Urine Despite Any Visual Evidence Of Blood?
I m concerned about a recent Urine test I had. I ve had blood in the urine in the past and it s typically gone away within a few months and I ve only had to have a follow-up urine test. Can you provide some insight as to why I might have Occult Blood 1+ with RBC 11-30. I m scared. Thank you! Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Siddartha's Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
First of all, I want to know whether you are a male or female. During the time of menstruation, urine examination may show red blood cells because of urine contamination.
In both genders, presence of renal stones (either in kidney or ureters) leads to red blood cells in the urine. Renal stones of small size can be dissolved by taking plenty of fluids.
Less commonly, kidney injury is also followed by RBC in urine. My suggestion is please consult general physician for more suggestions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Siddartha
