My 2 1/2 year old daughter had symptoms including: vomiting 3-4 times a day x4 days, no appetite, irritability. Meanwhile afebrile and drinking adequately. When she was not vomiting, she was going to the bathroom every 1-2 minutes because she felt like she was going to throw up. Bms normal for her. On the 3rd day, urine output decreased and she began having typical uti symptoms. Still afebrile. That night, she woke up screaming that her back hurt, so we went to the ped the next morning. By this point she had voided approx 80-100 ml over 24 hrs. Vomiting had stopped, but still no appetite, c/o belly pain and constant need to vomit. Ped had negative urine culture, negative renal u/s, cbc and chem 7 unremarkable, sed rate wnl, and u/a wnl except for slight increase in ketones (lack of eating) and her urobilinogen was 4 (highest end of ref. range is 1 from the lab used). The ped (not who my daughter usually sees) said that she doesn t know what that means, and that she never understood it since med school. I m am a nurse, therefore not trained at the level of a physician. I don t know what the significance of this is, but i feel like it wouldn t be included on the u/a if it didn t serve a purpose. She s on the mend. What does this value mean, and is this something I should pursue even though she seems to be getting better? Thanks in advance!!!
