What Causes The Wound To Be Still Open Post Thoracotomy?

My wife had a thoractomy and had an incision at the groin and its been five weeks and the wound is not closed ,but she went back to the doctor and he cleaned it with saline and put some gauz es with saline on the wound and then bandage and some tape .what else could be done and is that sufficient

I think this is sufficient. Sometimes healing of wound takes time. Particularly when wound is infected. I wound is infected it takes time otherwise it will heal soon.
