Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Thick Jell Like Discharge In The Throat?
Hi, I have drainage in my throat that occurs daily after supper. Thick, jelly like mucus. I have monitored my food to see if I am allergic to a particular food, but it happens daily. No congestion, no trouble breathing, just a nuisance clearing my throat. This has been going on since November.
Noted your short history of having thick mucus which is difficult to remove and comes on daily after supper, no congestion, no breathing trouble just a nuisance clearing the throat, going on since November. Since there are no other symptoms and the thick mucus needs to be cleared only after supper I do not think about anything serious. This can be lower pharyngeal congestion producing more mucus which gets thickened due to respiration or so.But it is mandatory to get a Laryngopharyngoscopy to rule out any cancer or so as cancers are notorious to have minimal symptoms in the initial phase. Yes, this is good that you are noticing whether some foods or beverages are causing such a problem and avoid these. Avoid dust and smoky atmosphere. Also find out whether you are losing weight, appetite or any changes in the routine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
