Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am experiencing an orange color thick discharge and a fishy smell. I thought it was yeast prior to the discharge color change and used Monistat yesterday and today I m getting orange discharge. I know it s no STD because I m abstinent and was tested several times. Could it be just a bacterial infection?
Thick, orange vaginal discharge with fishy smell is indicative of infection. Stay well hydrated. Thick discharge may be due to dehydration, ovulation or infection. It is indicative of BV, trichomoniasis infection. You are suggested to get STD tests done to stay on the safer side.
You can take an oral course of metronidazole (Flagyl). It should treat your symptoms. If it is resistant you can apply topically metronidazole vaginal suppositories in the vagina every alternate night for 5 nights. Your symptoms should go away. Take care of the hygiene. Do not douche your vagina. Do not wear ornaments in the private parts.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
