What Causes Thinning Of Hair While On Thyroid Medication?

I have been on thyroid meds for over 6 years and I feel no different while I am on them. The only difference I have seen/felt is my hair thinning out and breaking off. I use to have really long hair and ever since I started taking these meds I have lost half my hair & it won t grow. I have chosen to stop taking the meds and it has been 6 weeks and I feel no different being on them. Is this normal?

If your thyroid disease is not being well controlled on Synthroid (levothyroxine), it is possible that you will continue to have problems with hair loss. It is not the Synthroid per se, it's that you may not be getting enough of the medication or you may be getting too much.
