What Causes Throat Blockage With Difficulty In Breathing?

While I don t have any of the symptoms listed, at night it sometimes feels as though something is crossing or closing the back of my throat making it difficult to get a breath. Is this being cause by the epiglottis and if not, what can be causing the frightening symptom?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood your concern about feeling of something crossing or closing the back of the throat making it difficult to breath particularly at night.
This is never caused by epiglottis problem.
The most probable causes are loose palate, enlarged tonsils loose folds of the pharynx and all.
I would advise you the following:
Get the Sleep apnoea study done with a MRI and the diagnosis will be made with a plan of further treatment.
