What Causes Throat Congestion?

I had reaction today where my throat immediately closed not allowing me to breathe when I took a sip -sampling of honey ginger balsamic vinegar at specialty store. I ve added fresh ginger to smoothies previously and never had a reaction. I use store bought honey with no reaction (inexpensive products), never tried raw honey or higher grades of honey. I do have allergic reactions to bee stings but never had an episode around my head or neck area or had to go to the er. Do you think the reaction today is because of allergy to bees that caused my throat to immediate close up when I barely, I mean barely tasted the honey? and do you think that it something that I should now see a doctor about?

Thanks for the query..

Yes, it is appearing to be a severe form of allergic reaction and close of throat is due to swelling of throat caused due to allergic reaction.
As it has happened after eating it can be due to allergy to any food components and as it has caused throat congestion, therefore it should be immediately checked by getting an allergic test done..
Once ruled out, you should keep away from the allergen as closing of throat can even obstruct your breathing and it can become fatal..
Even if still you get allergic reaction you should take anti allergics for and immediately consult an Emergency room so that they give steroid shot to reduce symptoms faster..
