What Causes Throat Discomfort, Dry Cough And Fever?

My 12 yr old grandson had a scratchy throat and dry cough during the weekend. That was followed Monday morning with head full of congestion and fever (up to 101.5 degrees) and fatigue. Pediatrician diagnosed ear infection (?) - no pain and prescribed Amoxicillin. Had 3 doses so far, but still carrying low-grade fever (99.5) even with Ibuprofen and Tylenol. Worried about the fever and he s missing lots of schoolwork to make up. He had flu shot (could be mild case ?)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your grandson seems to be suffering from upper respiratory tract infection and it will take him a day or two to recover.

He should continue with the antibiotics that he has been prescribed as Amoxicillin works well in URTI.

In addition, tell him to do warm betadine gargles and drink lots of fluids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman,
