What Causes Throat Irritation After Quitting Smoking?

Hi, i quit smoking 2 months ago, and ever since i quit i have been having to clear my throat constantly. There is not a lot of pain, just some minor burning. I dont actually cough stuff up, just have to keep clearing my throat. Then i will cough, but not a lot. I was using mints, a lot of mints, like 2 boxes per day of icebreakers, sugar free. But they hurt my stomach, so now i am using altoids, but only a few per day. Any idea what might be causing me to have to constantly clear my throat?

Hi,

It is due to minor inflammation in the throat.

Nothing much to worry as it will settle by itself.

As of now, you can use warm saline gargles for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
