What Causes Throat Irritation When I Swallow?

When I swallow it irritates my throat. In the past I had an abscess behind my tonsils and went to the ER to remove the fluid from the back of my tonsil. Currently I have an irritation on the back flap in front of my pharynx. It appears to have very minor swelling like a tiny ball on that flap should I be worried?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think you suffered with peritonsilar abscess with presentation with recollection or pharyngotonscilitis. Examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid spicy food and alcohol, avoid cool drinks and freeze water. Use water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
