Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Throat Obstruction Upon Lying On The Back?
My throat closes when I lay on my back and sometimes when I am up and trying to swallow. I can actually feel something fall into my throat on both occasions. I also wake up with a sore throat and a very dry mouth, I m sure from mouth breathing since my throat closes off.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of throat obstruction upon lying on the back which could be due to acid reflux from stomach leading to excessive production of bile and could be due to throat infection caused by bacteria, mouth breathing and tonsillitis.
Need not to worry about it. I would suggest you to suck on sugar free candy and keep yourself hydrated. Avoid oily and fried food. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper checkup. Doctor may order test like throat swab test and blood test. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like penicillin along with decongestant and anti inflammatory. In case of acid reflux Proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole could be relieving. For now do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
