What Causes Throbbing Ache At The Back Of The Head?

I am experiencing an unusual headache (for me) on the top of my head. Not up through the neck and to the back of my head like most of my stress headaches, Not in the front of the face or eyebrows like my sinus headaches, nor like the vascular headaches I have had in the past. It is a dull throbbing pain, I have had for two days and nothing seems to help it. I feel it off and on a couple hours at a time Could this be a different type of tension headache?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
A throbbing type of pain is encountered when there is pus collection.
However, throbbing type of pain on top of head is unlikely to be due to pus collection.
This type of pain seems to ave a vascular origin.
I suggest you to get your blood pressure checked.
High blood pressure can also cause this type of headache.
In addition doppler study of head and neck blood vessels will be helpful in determining any abnormality and thus management.

Thanks and take care
