What Causes Throbbing Pain In The Hip?

I am having a problem with my right hip. I have a throbbing pain after standing for any period of time. the pain is in the rear towards the outside of the hip. I do not have pain sitting or laying down or walking. Over the counter pain medication do not seem to help. I also have a throbbing pain in the lower outside part of the right leg. This area is above the ankle 4-5 inches and on the outside of the leg. This pain occurs at the same time as the hip. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You may be experiencing sciatica pain which generally is due to the nerve being pinched on the way from the lower back to the lower leg.

You may need some physiotherapy together with ibuprofen.
If no improvement with these in 2-3 weeks or any worsening, you will need to see your doctor.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
