What Causes Tickling Sensation In The Throat?

HI! I am a 51 year old white female. I get a random tickle in my throat. Then I start coughing and sometimes gag, to the point that I think I am going to throw up. It happens several times during the day and sometimes wakes me up during the night. And sometimes I can feel my throat closing up and makes it difficult to swallow. I have tried cough drops, allergy medicine and chorale septic spray to rid the tickle in my throat.
