Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Tight Sensation In The Abdomen On The Right Side?
Hi, I had hernia surgery (triple hernia-one umbilical and two inguinal) a week ago. I ve been feeling better gradually, but today it s felt like my right side has tightened up dramatically and feels like it s cramping. Is this normal or potentially problematic?
A slight to moderate cramping is an acceptable part of postoperative recovery as tissue planes are trying to realign after the reconstruction.
However, extensive tightness may indicate underlying serious collection at the operated site or tissue response to a foreign body in form of prolene mesh used for reconstruction of a hernia.
It is better to consult your surgeon rather than being in dilemma.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
General Surgeon
