Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Tight Sensation The Feet After Taking Amlodipine And Metoprolol?
I am a 55 yr old male and recently started taking 5mg daily of amlodipine and metoprolol. I just started noticing my ankles and feet are tight and heavy. I am not in heart failure and am taking this due to afib. Can you tell me if this could be a side effect of the amlodipine?
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
Among the medications you use Amlodipine is the one that might cause leg tightness and swelling. This effect is completely reversible with the stop of Amlodipine.
Please talk to your doctor on this and if you can try to quit Amlodipine for a while to verify if this is its side effect.
If the swelling subsides when you Amlodipine, than it is confirmed that it is it's side effect and your doctor can decide to substitute it with another drug that doesn't cause this side effect.
If the swelling does not improve in the following weeks than other causes should be considered and proper examination is needed.
I hope this answers to your question and is helpful to you but please feel free to write me in case more clarification is needed on this.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
