Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am age 70 in good health and active. For 3 days my right jaw has become very sore and I have difficulty opening my mouth in the mornings. The first 2 days it got better during the day. Today I ve had difficulty open mouth enough to eat. Not taking any new meds, no injuries or trauma, no open wounds.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain soreness in jaw and difficulty in mouth opening for 3 days and when you have not taken any new medicine or trauma etc can be most probably be related to jaw joint also known as Temporomandibular joint and the most common cause can be jaw joint dislocation..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral physician or an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like full mouth x ray known as Orthopantomogram or OPG and lateral view x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
As of now you can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone and do warm compresses over the jaw.. Massage the muscles of the side of face in round gentle movements of finger tips.. Take a soft diet.. Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
