What Causes Tightness In Chest After Using Mometasone Nasal Spray?

Hi my daughter age 16 has taken her first dose of mometasone furuate nasal spray about an hour ago for treatment of nasal conjestion causing headaches. she has mild asthma and is complaining of tightness in her chest which is not being releived by her pump - symbicort. please advise if this is common. thanks

thank you for asking your concern and welcome to hcm. tightness of heart after nasal spray is not common. i would suspect tightness is not because of spray it may be due to asthma. if she is having URI, wheezing, fever and increased cough then it may be an infection of lower respiratory tract also or acute exacerbation of asthma also. if you have nebulisation at your home then it will be good to give 1ml salbutamol nebulisation now and see the progress over 15 -20 min. if she does not feel well with it and tightness increases with it then you may need to see doctor as soon as possible. if symptom relives with nebulisation then you can give another dose after 4-6 hours. she will also need antibiotics if above symptoms are present like amoxicillin 250 mg thrice a day for 5-7 days.
