What Causes Tightness In Chest With Breathing Difficulty?
After raking wet leaves on a cool day, I developed tightness in my chest and a slight cough. I thought that it might be a touch of my cold-induced asthma which is caused by my chronic sinus allergies. However, that only lasts for a couple of hours. It has been 2 days since I raked the leaves and my symptoms are getting worse. I have no other cold or flu symptoms. Just a lot of tightness in my chest making breathing a little uncomfortable, and a continual need to cough up small amounts of mucus. Could I have possibly developed an infection in my lungs from the mold on the wet leaves? Should I go see my doctor or wait it out a few more days?
Hello Thanks for your query. From your history it seems to me that probably your asthma symptoms get aggravated rather than having an infections in the lungs as you have come across all the asthma precipitating factors. I suggest you to consult your pulmonologist and get thoroughly examined and should undergo a chest x-ray, spirometry with bronchodialator reversibility and clinical assessment of your asthma control level and probably adjustment of the dosages of your asthma medications. Thank you. Regards, Dr Arnab Maji
