What Causes Tightness In The Chest When Exposed To Pollution?

When the air quality is low I feel a tightness in my chest - I had this checked out about 2 years ago. NOT a heart condition. - yet the problem has not gone away - Age 49 - weight 220. Family history has diabetes, hypertension and heart dieease. I do not drink or smoke and I amnot taking any meds.

I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you are mostly having post inhalation bronchitis.
As you are saying that you feel chest tightness after inhaling polluted air, possibility of bronchitis is more.
Polluted air when inhaled can cause irritation and inflammation in airways (bronchitis).
This will cause bronchospasm and this inturn causes chest pressure and tightness.
So best treatment for you is to wear face mask all the time.
Inhaled bronchodilator like formoterol or salmeterol are also useful to relieve chest tightness.
