What Causes Tightness In Throat And Enlarged Tongue Despite Plaquenil Withdrawal?
After starting Plaquenil, began having tightness only on left side of front of throat, causing voice to sound a bit off to me. Took for approx 3 weeks and stopped. Also having what appears to be an enlarged tongue w/teeth marks on sides of tongue. Have been off Plaquenil for approx 2 weeks, but symptoms remain.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have tightness in throat and enlarged tongue which occurs due to a condition called macroglossia. Need not to panic about it. There are certain difficulties with this like speech problems, jaw development and dental abnormalities, Feeding difficulty and it can get easily ulcerated as well. Visit oral pathologist once and get it examined and take preventive measures to manage it. Also consult ENT specialist for sore throat and gastroenterologist for acid reflux , because both can be responsible for throat tightness .It could be possible that is is due to certain systemic diseases like down's syndrome, so its proper examination is must. Maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
