What Causes Tightness In Throat And Wheezing Post A Rib Fracture?

Hello. I sustained rib fractures on my right side due to a truck crash. Fast forward three weeks, and taking medications like advil to help with the pain, now I feel like my throat Is constricted when I sleep on my good side, and occasionally feel a lump in my throat as if my airway is closing. Then it goes away. In the morning, wake with fluid and wheezing, and feel better after I cough it up. Is this related to my rib fracture. Didn t have that problem before my accident. Whats going on?

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. This is not likely from rib injury. Your problem can be due gastro esophageal reflux caused by pain medications like Advil. Taking proton pump inhibitors like Esomeprazole ( Nexium ) for 2 weeks will be helpful for this. Avoid excess fatty, fried, greasy and junk foods. Carbonated drinks, alcohol and smoking should be avoided also. Have food at least 2 hours before bed time. Raise head end more with extra pillows while sleeping also.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
