What Causes Tightness In Throat With High Pitched And Strained Voice?

I have a constant tight feeling in my throat and had it for the past year or so. It makes my voice sound high pitched and week, strained. When I breath hard every time I inhale it feels like my throat narrows and so my breath feels like its getting stuck in my throat. This feeling sometimes goes away, only for a few minutes to seconds. I lost my voice a few days ago and during that time I had to force myself to speak without straining my throat and during that time I regained my fuller deeper voice with a more noticeably relaxed throat. I spoke with zero straining. 2 days later I was talking when out of the sudden the old tightness returned and its been like that again since then. I have had times where if anything slightly touched my throat/Adams apple I would throw up. Maybe that has something to do with this tightness. What is the cause and how can I get rid of it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of losing your voice few days back & now experience the same symptoms that triggered your discomfort, you are suggested to visit an ENT or Otolaryngologist.

Get clinically examined & assessed. Get all blood tests, biopsy & imaging tests done to rule out any developing laryngeal issues(tumors /cancer).

Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected & your clinical condition. Neglect may result in the worsening of the symptoms. In the meantime, take care of your throat, give voice rest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
