Carvedilol does not cause tightness in rib cage or chest. As you are having
hiatus hernia, this tightness is most probably due to hiatus hernia.
In hiatus hernia, acid from stomach is allowed to reflux back into the
esophagus causing inflammation of the lining of the esophagus and the symptoms of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) such as heart burn, nausea vomiting, and burping. Other symptoms which you might feel are dull
chest pain,
shortness of breath, and palpitations.
You have only mild symptoms, so aggressive treatment is not needed. But there are some preventive measures you can adopt:
1. Continue carvedilol as suggested and take it after meal
2.
Omeprazole 20 mg daily per oral in empty stomach for 7 days
3. Syrup Mucaine gel– 2 teaspoonfuls three times daily per oral. Take this when you feel much heart burn. Otherwise avoid it
4. Avoid alcohol, smoking, spicy food, and non-steroidal pain killer
5. Avoid eating 3 hours before lying down
6. Do not take heavy meal at a time. divide your meal into smaller parts
7. Raise the head of your bed
