What Causes Tingling And Numbness In Left Leg After Taking Gabapentin?

Hi I have been diagnosed with a synovial cyst pressing on root of sciatic nerve, I have been on various medications since June, most recently Gabapentin 100mg of which I have recently reduced to 2 per night. Daytime I take 1 Diclofenac 75 mg... I have tingling and some numbness in my left leg and foot as a result of cyst, waiting to hear if I can have surgery... Meds have made me drowsy but I am coping... Today when I got home from work I felt lightheaded and both my arms are tingly this has lasted for about 2 1/2 hrs.. I feel tired... Just not sure why this has happened

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

This indicates peripheral neuropathy which is a result of damage to your peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness, and pain, usually in your hands and feet.

It can also affect other areas of your body. Treatment actually depends on the right cause. Most common causes are diabetes, alcoholism, inherited disorders or trauma and medications.

However, many other causes may be seen so tests are required to identify the right one.

Till that you can do some general remedies: Avoid factors that may cause nerve damage, including repetitive motions, cramped positions, exposure to toxic chemicals, smoking and overindulging in alcohol.

Also, take vitamin d supplements and regulate blood sugar levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
