Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Tingling And Numbness In The Fingers Of The Left Hand?
Hi, I am experiencing a tingling/numb feeling in my left arm down to my fingers...primarly in the first finger and thumb, little bit in my middle finger. I started feeling this 5 days ago leaving a cruise ship...maybe a pinched nerve when I picked up my suitcase.
There can be many reason for symptoms you mention in query like sign of nerve damage, repetitive stress, injuries, bacterial or viral infections, toxic exposures, and systemic diseases such as diabetes and peripheral neuropathy. There can be other reasons also like nerve entrapment, carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve palsy, hormonal imbalances and vitamin deficiencies (vitamin B1).
I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination. Doctor may order CT scan, ask for certain movements and complete blood tests. Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxants, recommend physical therapy of arm and hand along with stretching exercises and recommend particular stretching exercises.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
