Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
5 weeks ago I was contacted by a guy I have a one night stand with unprotected and he stated that he was being treated for mycoplasma (tested clear for other STI s) and that I need to go get treated myself (I had already been for routine sexually transmitted infections and tested clear for them). We were treated with azithromycin as in the UK they do not test for mycoplasma and he had urinary symptoms still after 2 months. I on the other hand have shown no obvious symptoms (no change in discharge, sex did not hurt, I did not have abnormal bleeding and i had no urinary symptoms). I did have a tingling sensation on my labia majora, sometimes ichy but i put this down to hair regrowth after waxing... I have had it for about 4 weeks now. I did discuss herpes with the health advisor at my clinic appointment and was advised that if it was Herpes then I would have had an outbreak after 1-2 days following the tingling sensation. I have also spoken to previous sexual partners and they have also not had a gential herpes outbreak and have tested clear for sti s. The guy has contacted me back and said he still has symtoms even after azithromycin and metronidazole... could it be that it is more of a urology issue for him because I do not have symptoms? Could there be any other explanation? He would not still have urinary symptoms two months after sex if it was herpes would he? and what may these tingles be?
Provided STI work up is negative for you, the labia majoratingling sounds to be related to subjective feeling rather than related to grave infection of some sort. The guy with persistent symptoms of urinary discomfort sound to be of urinary tract related abnormalities rather than STI only.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
