Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have been having tingling in my feet, mainly my left on and off for months. the left side of my face started tingling on and off for the past couple months. does this sound more muscle related? I am 35 years old and fairly healthy. diagnosed with hypo thyroidism that is recently stable. the only other symptom is a spasm feeling in my chest on and off. it usually comes a couple times a month and then will last 3-4 days and go away
Tingling is often caused by peripheral nerve damage. There are many causes of peripheral nerve damage such as diabetes, chronic renal failure, leprosy, vertebral compression, vasculitis, shingles and hypothyroidism etc. As you are patient of hypothyroidism, it is mostly likely due to hypothyroidism. Regular treatment of hypothyroidism will resolve tingling sensation. You need to take levothyroxine for life-long. Any interruption in treatment will cause symptoms of hypothyroidism. Monitor your treatment by serum TSH yearly once you are on stable dose of throxine. Spasm feeling in chest may be due to palpitation/heartburn due to side effect of thyroxine. It will resolve with time. Advice 1. Methylcobalamin 500 mcg once daily per oral for 3 months 2. Regularly take thyroxine as suggested by your doctor 3. Investigation – serum TSH, lipid profile, Hb%, ECG Thanks
