Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Tingling Sensation And Numbness In Back And Neck While Taking Flexeril?
I had three titanium spacers put between 3 disks in my cervical spine. I m pretty sure I have some nerve damage because it s been ( months since my surgery. I start physical therapy today. I have taken flexiril (muscle relaxer). It helped some with morning stiffness. The loss of feeling in my arms and hands continues but doesn t seem to be getting worse. Tingling, numbness, pins and needles. What s new is shoulder and back pain, and sometimes my lower neck. I understand it is used to treat neuropathic pain. Is it addictive like opiates? Some of the reviews are good and some say they caused some problematic side effects and stopped using it. I prefer not to take narcotics. What can you tell me.?
Flexeril is cyclobenzaprine which is a skeletal muscle relaxant but not an opioid. There is no addictive potential to this drug. The following are few adverse effects of Flexeril: 1) Drowsiness (up to 39% immediate-release; 100% extended-release) 2) Dry mouth (21-32%) 3) Dizziness (3-11%) 4) Pharyngitis (1-3%) 5) Headache (1-5%) 6) Fatigue (6%) 7) Palpitations (6%) 8) Bad taste in mouth (1-6%) 9) Indigestion (4%) 10) Blurred vision (3%) 11) Constipation (1-3%) 12) Nausea (1-3%) 13) Nervousness (1-3%) 14) Arrhythmia 15) Hypotension 16) Palpitation 17) Syncope 18) Tachycardia
Don't get panicked at the long list of side effects. Not everyone has all the side effects. But you can use Flexeril along with rest or physical therapy. It's not a narcotic and there is no addictive potential.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
